Week 18 Recap

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

Week 1, 2024 will be worth ?,???.00 to a single winner

What a way to end the 2023 Pick 10 Football Pool season. A single Pick 10, 2 week rollover, winner. A for way tie in the Pick 1 Winner Pool. A Pooler winner with zero losses in the Pick 1 Loser Pool. And a 1st lace tie in the Accumulative Pool. Plus, as an added attraction, a giant screwup in the Accumulative Pool. But more on that later.

SgtZ was the only Pooler in Week 18 to pick all 10 games correctly. And his timing was perfect. With a 2 week rollover, the 3 week total was $4,605.00. Not a bad was to start the season.

Making his win more remarkable was the fact that many teams, especially those with their playoff positions solidified, didn’t play most of their starters. That makes it difficult knowing who to pick.

Philadelphia started all of their once upon a time stars and failed miserably against the Giants. That took out 234 Poolers. And SgtZ managed to avoid that game. He also managed to steer clear of playoff hopeful Jacksonville. Another team fail, and a disappointment to 192 Poolers.

So, congratulations to SgtZ, for his huge win, and the largest money grabber of the 2023 Pick 10 season.

The Pick 1 Winner Pool ended in a 4 way tie. Beardown, Dwex, Texman and ZMACK all ended the season with 1 loss. Each of the 4 won $755.00 Another remarkable feat, but . . .

Not to be outdone in the Pick 1 Loser Pool, The Roomba pick all 18 weeks of losers correctly. Based on the tie-breaker rule, he defeated TOGOM, who ended the season with but 1 loss. The Roomba collected $3,020.00 for his effort.

The Accumulative Pool ended with a 2-way tie for 1st place. Both Golfboy and Mwex10 finished the season with 131 wins for an average of 7.71 wins per week. They split 1st and 2nd place money, and took home $1,915.00 each.

Finishing in 3rd place with 130 wins is Big ‘Ol Ditka. His great effort earned him $675.00. And this is where the giant screwup took place by the Pool Master.

As I typically do during the last 3 weeks of the season is to hold back the picks made by the leaders of the Accumulative Pool until all of them are received. Then I post them all. When I receive an email with their picks, I put it into a separate email folder. Big ‘Ol Ditka submitted his picks on January 4th, and I accidently put his email into the regular folder for Week 18 picks. When I received the last 2 picks on Sunday I went to the special folder and entered the top Poolers. But I forgot that I put BOD’s in the other folder.

So what happened was that I didn’t have his picks recorded at kick-off on Sunday, and without noticing, I just entered default picks as I usually do when people don’t submit.

Last evening I was looking at the top of the Pool to see where we stood. And I was able to determine that Golfboy and Mwex10 couldn’t be overcome by anyone below them in the standings. Likewise, I was showing Gator Dragon as the 3rd place winner. Then, this afternoon I received an email from BOD saying WTH!!!! He sent me his confirmation. I also looked and had his picks in the other folder.

Bottom line is that both Big ‘Ol Ditka, after Sunday’s games were tied with 130 wins. However, Big ‘Ol Ditka had Michigan tonight. The Michigan win gave him sole possession of 3rd place.

I feel bad for Gator Dragon as I had already declared him winning some money. I’m so sorry about the mistake. But everything is right now, just as it should be.

Sorry for the long blathering explanation. My son always criticizes how long winded i tend to be.

Anyway, this is the end of what I consider an exciting and successful season. More than $38,000 has been paid out to 41 Poolers. We grew the Pool from 290 to 308. And we welcomed 41 new Poolers to this little game.

I just want to thank everyone for helping to make this the best Pool ever. Without all of you, the Pool wouldn’t be as much fun to run.

And when 1 pool ends, another starts. Stay tuned for an update to the Super Bowl Pools tomorrow. Squares are selling out fast.

See y’all next season.
