Week 17 will be worth $3,070.00 to a single winner
So close! Yet no cigar!! An old saying that is very relevant this week. Two Poolers, Knuckle Nuts and Oakleaf Assassin finished this crazy scheduling week at 7-0. Today, Christmas Day, the NFL decided to play 3 games. All Knuckle Nuts and Oakleaf Assassin needed to do was have a heavily favored Kansas City, a heavily favored Philadelphia and favored San Francisco win to claim the pot of $1,585.00. As we all know by now, Kansas City flopped as did the hopes of two, deserving Poolers.
Week 16 was kind of crazy is several ways, not including the scheduling. As we all know, I do my best to provide everyone with 25 games to chose from each week. But this late in the season, with college football’s regular season long behind us, all I have to pick from are the Bowl games. And there are lots of Bowl games. However, I have some standards when deciding which college teams to include in the Pool. And the biggest decision is where do I draw the line on early point spreads. Week 16 had some Bowl games with anywhere from 7 to 15 point spreads. If we want 308 winners each week I could have easily included those. But, no one want to win $5.00. So I leave them out. Consequently, Week 16 only had 6 college games and 22 total games to pick from.
Those 6 college games turned out to be somewhat of a disaster to the Poolers who picked them. Every Pooler favorite lost 5 of those 6 games. And the 6th game, there was only a 4 pick difference. The number of picks for the favorite that lost was 299. The number for the underdogs, that actually won, was 42. I’m sure that will result in some uncertainty about picking college games this week. And the good news is, we are back to 9 games.
In the Pick 1 Winner Pool, 10 Poolers entered the week making picks, 6 lost with Denver losing to New England. 5 of those 6 have been eliminated. The 6th, Texman, has joined the other 3, who selected Philadelphia, with 1 loss. Therefore, there is no need for a tie-breaker. As I did last week, I will not post any of those picks until all 4 are received.
In the Pick 1 Loser Pool, we started the week with 5 participants. Two have dropped out with the Las Vegas and Baltimore wins. The Roomba still is without a loss and will win the tie breaker if today was the end of the season. But it’s not, so play on. As with the Winner Pool, I will not post any picks until all are received.
And just when you think that 1st place in the Accumulative Pool has been pretty much been locked up, along comes Week 16. Golfboy has held a 2 or 3 win lead for the past few weeks. Now, with his 4 win week, Golfboy’s lead has dwindled to only 1 win over Mwex10. 116 to 115. And 1 win behind Mwex10, and tied for 3rd place are Big Ol’ Ditka and Packer Backer. With only 2 weeks remaining in the Pick 10 season, there is still time to make some gains in this Pool. This week I will be holding back picks for the 4 Poolers just mentioned, as well as Corn Cob Rob and Gator Dragon. Both are only 1 win out of 3rd place at this point. As soon as all 6 are received I will post them on Weekly Picks 2023.
That’s about it for Week 16. This week will end 2023 but not the Pick 10 season. There are still 2 weeks remaining and lots of winnings to distribute.
