Week 8 Recap: Miracles Happen
These words have been a long time coming…
CONGRATULATIONS to Walleye Moses and Wildcard, the first winners of the 2026 Pick 10 Football Pool season!
The Week 8 pot totaled $13,120.00, meaning each winner pockets $6,560.00. In the history of the Pick 10 Football Pool, nobody has ever won that much money in a single week.
Frankly, after watching the first seven weeks of this season, it was beginning to look like we were going to roll over prize money until Christmas.
Finding winners has not exactly been the pool’s strong suit in 2026. Week after week, Poolers have faithfully marched behind heavy favorites like lemmings heading toward a cliff. Then the favorites lose, and hundreds of entries vanish into the football afterlife. Week 8 looked ready to continue the tradition.
The carnage started on Saturday when 100 Poolers hitched their wagon to Oklahoma, only to watch South Carolina send them packing.
Then Sunday showed up and chose violence.
First, Dallas lost in overtime to Arizona, eliminating 244 Poolers. That didn’t quite wipe out the field, but it did reduce the list of potential winners from “maybe” to “not many.”
The real drama came in Tennessee vs. Cincinnati.
A whopping 318 of 329 Poolers selected Cincinnati. Just 6 brave souls, or perhaps 6 people who accidentally clicked the wrong box, selected Tennessee. The game went to overtime, and for a few nervous moments the entire season sat on the edge of another rollover. Fortunately for the masses, Cincinnati survived. Had Tennessee won, we’d probably still be talking about rollover money next week.
The final upset that mattered involved The Chosen One game. A total of 211 Poolers selected Seattle, only to watch them lose to Chicago, which had been selected by just 118 Poolers. That result ultimately decided Week 8.
The winners weren’t officially determined until Monday night. Ten Poolers entered the game with perfect 9-0 records. Unfortunately for BuffBillCam, Vic Vinegar, MIKEAZ, Agent Zero, glas2744, Who Dey, Chris9080 and Brometheus, they picked Seattle.
A great run. An admirable effort. A heartbreaking ending.
That left Walleye Moses and Wildcard standing alone atop the mountain… and standing next to a very large pile of cash.
Pick 1 Winner Pool
Only 5 of the 46 remaining players were eliminated this week. Three went down with Dallas, while two somehow trusted Atlanta enough to join them.
Pick 1 Loser Pool
The Loser Pool claimed 7 of its 54 remaining players. Four lost with Arizona, two with Denver, and one with Chicago.
Accumulative Pool
covey has climbed into 1st place with 60 wins.
Lil Wambo sits alone in 2nd place with 59 wins.
C. Hawk 80 occupies 3rd place with 58 wins.
Meanwhile, PTC SPARTAN, Dalton and Walleye Moses remain just one win out of the money, lurking like fantasy football managers waiting for somebody else’s injury report.
Looking Ahead
It’s been an exhausting eight weeks of rollover pots, shattered favorites, overtime drama and collective frustration.
Now, at long last, we return to something resembling normalcy.
The Week 9 pot will be a mere $1,640.00.
After handing out $13,120 this week, that almost feels like finding a quarter in the couch cushions.
Off to a new start!
