Pick 10 Football Pool

Week 5 Recap

ROLLOVER!! Week 6 will be worth $3,180.00 to a single winner   Here we go again! After a one week hiatus from rollovers, with Rusty Trombones big win in Week 4, Week 5 produced zero winners again. While it wasn’t a terrible week wins wise, a couple of big upsets proved to be too much to overcome.     Going into the late Sunday games, Princess Brittany was well on her way to victory with 8 wins. Right behind her was T Redneck with 7. And still undefeated were 38 others. My thought was a 40 way split and a payout of $39.75 per Pooler. But, lo and behold, Arizona and the NY Giants decided to pull off 2 huge Pool upsets. And then there were none.    San Francisco, by themselves, wiped out all 40 of the remaining Poolers. Had the 49’ers won, Seattle would have eliminated 39 of the 40. In total, 10 of the 25 games played in Week 5 were upsets according to all of our picks.   In the Pick 1 Winner Pool, 47 of the 98 still active were eliminated. That leaves, according to my math, 51 Poolers still playing in Week 6.   The Pick 1 Loser Pool was a tad worse. 54 of 106 lost for the second time. 52 Poolers are moving on.   The Accumulative Pool has a new leader after Week 5. Killer B has overtaken The Diesel by one win, 35 to 34. Tied for 3rd place, with 33 wins, are A Pack of Rams, Auntie Vic, jag bags, Knuckle Nuts, Lucky Charms, Roso903, Tommy G and Tungy. AND, 1 game behind them are 14 others. So, don’t surrender just yet. There are still 13 weeks remaining. As they say, anything can happen.   That’s about it for Week 5. Research, Pick and Pray! The new motto for the Pick 10 in 2024.

Week 4 Recap

WE HAVE A WINNER!! Congratulations to Rusty Trombones   Week 5 will be worth $1,580.00 to a single winner   What a great week for Rusty Trombones. Those that follow @pick10football on Twitter noted that he was atop the leader board the entire weekend. Of course he was alone, but the numbers kept dwindling as the Sunday final scores rolled in. But the battle came down to Slacks and Rusty Trombones as the late afternoon games started going final. Unfortunately, it was the Cleveland Browns loss that proved to be Slacks undoing.   Once he was eliminated Rusty Trombones needed only a Detroit win on Monday night to claim the entire payout of $4,770.00. Monday night games often prove to be the kiss of death to potential winners. But not so tonight. Congratulations!   We performed much better this week. After 2 putrid weeks with many upsets, Week 4 was more predictable. The average number of Pooler wins this week was 6.26. That’s compared to 4.29 and 4.38 wins the previous two weeks.   In the Accumulative Pool, The Diesel is in first place with 28 wins. Tied for 2nd with 27 wins are A Pack of Rams, Dinwiddie, FUBAR, Huskiemax, jag bags, Killer B, and Shamrock8. Ten other are just 1 game out of a 2nd place tie.   The Picks 1 Winner Pool was reduced by 23 Poolers. Week 5 only 97 Poolers will be making picks.   The Pick 1 Loser Pool had 27 drop out leaving 26 picking next week.   That’s it for Week 4. Have a great week, and pick smart!

Week 3 Recap

ROLLOVER!! Week 4 worth $4,770.00 to a single winner Well, it happened again! Another week of major upsets in the NFL. With only one game still underway, we may perform just a tad better than last week with an average of 4.38 wins per Pooler.   The big Pool upsets this week were the Giants defeating Cleveland (6 to 260 picks), Denver over Tampa Bay (7 to 285 picks), Carolina besting Las Vegas (8 to 261 picks) and the Rams over San Francisco (4 to 215 picks). And, at the time of this writing Washington is beating Cincinnati (4 to 215 picks).   If this continues I have no idea where the Pool goes from here. Worse case scenario, we will be entering Week 18 with a 16 week rollover. And a winner will be determined in Week 18 by most wins for the week. In case you’re planning ahead, the pot size will be over $27,000.00, if that should happen.    By the way, Football Queen and Tiffany both completed the week with 8 wins. REMARKABLE!!   In the Accumulative Pool, tied for 1st with 21 wins are Pack of Rams and The Diesel. There is a 7 way tie for 3rd place, 1 win behind the leaders. OK!! Now the even more disastrous Pick 1 Winner and Loser Pools. This week alone we lost 126 of the 247 still playing. That has resulted, in only 3 weeks of double elimination, 201 Poolers OUT. The Pick 1 Loser Pool lost an even more impressive 130 Poolers. That brings the total to 188 already retired from this Pool. PLEASE!! I BEG YOU, if you entered these Pools, before you make your picks this week, review Weekly Picks 2024 to see if you are still in the hunt. If not, PLEASE don’t submit picks. And if you are still playing, PLEASE review your picks before making your selections to avoid taking the same team twice. PLEASE!!! This is the one area that causes me the biggest headache. And I’m way too old for headaches. SO PLEASE!!!! Thanks it for Week 3. Start looking at NFL teams differently and lets see some bold picks this week. AND, Cincinnati did lose tonight.

Week 2 Recap

ROLLOVER!! Week 3 worth $3,180.00 to a single winner   BLOODBATH!! There is no better way to describe the results of Week 2. If you don’t know what I’m talking about just take a look at that sea of red on the Week 2 tab on the Weekly Picks 2025 workbook.   The week was never really in doubt once we entered Sunday. One by one, in the early games, highly favored teams began falling. Dallas with 263 pickers, Detroit with 237 picks, San Francisco had  252 picks, and to a little lesser extent, but still a substantial number of pickers, Jacksonville with 108. And to put the finishing touches on Week 2, Philadelphia and it’s 266 pickers, just lost on MNF. Like I said, a BLOODBATH!!   But somehow both Two Pops and Wildcard finished with 8 wins. On the flip side, Sparty only had 1.   Week 1, Poolers averaged 7.45 wins. Week 2, that average dropped to 4.29 It can’t possibly get much worse . . . unless   You are participating in the Pick 1 Winner and Loser Pools. As you all know, once you have 2 incorrect picks in either of the Pools, you are eliminated.    Well, after just 2 weeks, the Pick 1 Winner Pool already says goodbye to 76 Poolers. On a positive side, we only lost 58 in the Pick 1 Loser Pool. Still a pretty big number after only a couple of weeks.   PLEASE, if you entered these Pool, please review your picks on the Weekly Picks 2024 workbook. If you see the word OUT on your alias line, do not submit picks for those Pools. I would truly appreciate that.   In the Accumulative Pool, Auntie Vic is the leader with 16 wins after 2 weeks. She is followed by The Diesel with 15 wins and in 2nd place. There is a 31 3rd place tie with 14 wins. There’s still a long way to go. So now is not the time to give up.   That’s it for Week 2. Study up hard as I don’t want to see these kinds of results this week.

Week 1 Recap

We Have Winners Week 2 will be worth $1,590.00 to a single winner Congratulations to Angry Kittens, Little Moe and Silverfox on their big Week 1 win in the Pick 10 Football Pool.    The three will share the pot of $1,590.00 and collect $530.00 each.    Week 1 wasn’t an extremely difficult week. The college games were lightly picked with the only major upset being Iowa losing to Iowa St. That took out 96 Poolers. Two NFL games were pretty big deciders. 123 Poolers selected Atlanta, they lost. But the 300 taken out by a Cincinnati loss to New England was a killer. How 19 Poolers didn’t select that game is a mystery. But most baffling is that MT actually picked New England.   It’s really a bit early in the season to discuss the Pick 1 Winner and Loser Pools as well as the Accumulative Pool.    I did send out an email today clarifying the rules on the Pick 1 Winner and Loser Pools. What has surprised me over the years is that how many people enter these Pools but don’t understand the ins and outs of playing. The rules for all the games are readily available for all of the games we play, on the web site.    It’s also surprising how many don’t know how to access the reports also available on the web site. Awareness of the information that I provide will help everyone make their game better.   The one report, Weekly Picks 2024 will show you everyone’s picks each week. In addition, on that same report are all of the picks in the Winner and Loser Pools as well as the standings in the Accumulative Pool.    It’s great to be back running the Pick 10 Football Pool. It’s always gratifying to see all of you return for another season. It’s been over 30 years of doing this and many of you have been right there with me for most of that time.    This year about 30 Poolers decided not to participate this year. But those losses were offset by over 40 newbies signing up to play. We now have 319 playing, 11 more than last year. To those of you that recruited these new players, thank you.   One final item, if you haven’t followed @pick10football on twitter, or do you call it X, you are missing out on some real time updates to the Pool throughout the weekend. So far, over 200 Poolers are participating. And what can make it even more fun is some back and forth among the followers. It’s a private account, so only you guys can follow and participate. If you aren’t part of the group, think about it.   That’s it for Week 1. I cannot believe that 1/18th of the season is already over.
