Week 5 Recap — The Season That Refuses To Make Sense

I’m officially out of new adjectives for whatever in the hell this Pool thinks it’s doing. I keep trying to come up with fresh material each week, but the season keeps recycling the same theme: goofy, chaotic, and allergic to logic.

At least Week 5 gave us a little drama heading into The Chosen One game: San Francisco vs Seattle. Blitzburg & Noe Competition strutted in at 8‑0. Johnny Dynamite, MstChief17, PatRiot, SpecShop & MiracleFrank were sitting pretty at 7‑0.

Then came MiracleFrank — the lone wolf who picked San Francisco. The 49ers won, which instantly turned his last two picks into a suspense thriller. He had Atlanta on Sunday night and… well, we don’t even need to finish that sentence. Baltimore’s 4th‑quarter resurrection and overtime domination slammed the door shut and delivered yet another rollover. Of course it did.

Now, allow me a brief detour into Thursday Night Football — also known as The Weekly Curse of the Overconfident. Picks started rolling in Monday morning. By kickoff, 196 Poolers had submitted picks. Of those, 191 picked Dallas. One brave soul — Pain in the Analyst — chose winless Tampa Bay for reasons known only to him and possibly his therapist. He finished 8‑2. So apparently some of his picks weren’t goofy… just the first one.

Despite the madness, plenty of Poolers had respectable weeks:

  • 10 Poolers hit 9 wins
  • 46 Poolers hit 8 wins Not bad for a season that’s been held together with duct tape and prayer.

Accumulative Pool

We’ve got a tie at the top: C. Hawk 80 and Lil Wambo with 37 wins — both went 8‑2 this week.

Right behind them at 36 wins: DeeJay, Anthonym311, Kiss My Alias, wargie, Weekend Ron, and covey.

Pick 1 Pools

  • Winner Pool: 44 eliminated this week. That’s 179 gone after five weeks. 159 still alive and clinging to hope.
  • Loser Pool: A bit more chaotic (because of course it was).
    • 58 eliminated
    • 146 survive to fight in Week 6

And that’s Week 5. Week 6 officially marks the point where we’re one‑third through the season already. Time flies when the NFL is actively trying to ruin your picks.
